New Unofficial X-Ships

X-ships are a frequent area for how to expand SFB, but they are controversial in most play groups. Some players see them as the logical next step in ships, others see them as munchkinized monsters. I have a review of Module X1 which summarizes many of these issues.

A Critical Review of Module X1

As an attempt to address some of those issues, I have devised an alternate set of rules for X-ships intended to be fast and simple. These rules are quite incomplete at present.

An Alternate Set of X-ship Rules

Now for the expansions...

Below are various X-ship designs which are available over the web. I personally feel that many of these designs are unbalanced, and would urge caution in introducing them into a play-group or campaign. However, it appears that players are interested in them, so here they are...

R-section X-ship Descriptions
This includes data for all the ships below, plus separated saucers and extra SSD's for the BBX showing it with various fighter and PF complements.

Federation Advanced Battleship (BBX)
A conjectural monster based on the General-War-era Battleship in R5.
Federation Advanced Dreadnaught (DNX)
Another conjectural design, adding RA photons and phasers but with fewer drone racks than the DNG.
Federation Advanced New Fleet Cruiser
This is based on the unofficial NCB design by John Kim, available on the new ships table.
Federation Advanced Destroyer (DDX)
A conjectural design for an X-destroyer based on the single-engine DD rather than a new two-engine design.

Designed by Robert Cole
Klingon C20 X-technology Dreadnaught
This has a radical new hull design "to better incorporate X Tech".

Designed by Chris Fant <fantc@mindspring.com>
These are ships and background for an alternate future for SFB, the Andromedan Invasion, where the Andros developed limited X-technology by Y180. They began sweeping the Galaxy, and by Y210 all but the inner core of the Federation had fallen. Note the the `point values' of these ships are not balanced with normal BPV's.

Romulan Firehawk-XF Mauler:
With the advent of X-batteries, the technology was finally available to the Romulans to actually build a mauler craft that could hold its own in fleet engagements. The single craft completed was based on the FireHawk-X (FireAxe) hull.

Federation Advanced PF's:
The forbidden advanced PF's!!! This is not a flotilla SSD but a collection of single PF's, charts and notes. It includes: Fed PFX Advanced PF, Fed PFXS Advanced PF Scout, and the Fed INX Advanced Interceptor.

Fed Advanced Patrol Cutter
An X-tech variant of the Police Cruiser based on the unofficial PCS and PCL (see the non-X ships list).

Jonathan S. McDermott's Page

Jonathan McDermott (aka Caraig) has an x-ship campaign set after the trade wars: the New Marches. This includes
Federation Advanced Starshire
A mobile starbase.
Federation Advanced Starship-of-the-Line
A casual carrier loosely based on the CA and BC.
Advanced Battlecruiser

Federation BCX Excelsior
This represents the Excelsior-class ships of the Next-Gen era (Y250). In that era, these were workhorses of the fleet, although souped-up versions like the Lakota  could take on top-of-the-line ship like the Defiant . This SSD represents what the Federation cruisers are evolving towards: larger ships with all-around weapon suites (including the option of rear launchers for the photon torpedoes).

1X Designs by Donald Miller at his SFB Page
This is a subset of Donald Miller's designs: the more standard X-technology designs (usable with just Module X1 rules). For more info and links to his Next Generation (4X) rules, see his web page.
