SFB Tactics Manual
This 112-page book contains a wide variety of tactical advice, from duels to fleet battles, fighters, and PF's. It's hard to talk about the book without talking about tactics in general, but for a brief overview...The manual breaks up tactics into six sections: Power & Energy, Firepower, Maneuvering, Foreign Tactics (i.e. articles for each race), Class Tactics, and Special Subjects (mostly optional rules like mines and electronic warfare).
The introductory sections are quite good. The foreign tactics are of variable quality, having been written by different ``experts''. For example, the Federation tactics article treats only a duel with a Klingon, and assuming poor tactics on the part of the Klingon. For more advanced play, SFB is very much an evolving game -- both overall and especially for individual groups. Many of the tactics expressed in the book are more-or-less "obselete."
Often a new trick will work once or several times -- but after that your opponent will be expecting it. Almost by definition, any tricks that appear in this book are old news.
