Module F1: The Jindarians

The Jindarians are new race of wandering tribes who wander between asteroid belts, living their lives out in space. They are modelled after the Bedouins and Gypsies. Their big ships (cruisers and larger) are hollowed-out asteroids which rely on kilometers of rock for their main protection rather than shields, while their small ships are more conventional metal-hull destroyers and frigates.

This modules introduces several new rules. First the Jindarian asteroid-ship armor, which is directional like shields (i.e. six bands of armor corresponding to the shield directions). Second, the Jindarian asteroid ships have anti-transporter fields and traps for boarding parties to compensate for lacking shields. The main new rule is the Warp-Augmented Rail Gun. This is a very powerful long-range cannon which fires every turn, and also has a defensive mode which allows the Jindarian to destroy a swath of seeking weapons (drone or plasma) in a single shot.

The difficulty is that the railguns are mounted in split arcs, pointed out in 4 or 6 directions. Plus, the asteroid ships themselves are slow (max speed 20) and difficult to maneuver.

The metal-hull destroyers and frigates mount a lesser "light railgun" which does not have defensive fire mode and is shorter-ranged. They are similar to other races small ships, but they also have split arcs.

When entrenched in the asteroid belts they call home, the Jindarians present an intense tactical challenge: they can make their ships disappear by shutting down and blending in with other asteroids. Their rail-guns can cause enormous damage and sweep away hordes of drones.
