(DJJHK1.0) SUNFISH DRONES

Sunfish drones are essentially multi-warhead drones which launch a single plasma-D submunition rather than three dogfight drones (similar to the early Klingon Stingray drone). In an alternate history, they were developed by joint Klingon-Romulan design in Y175.

The intent of the design was to give some long-range support capabilities to Romulans, who could launch them from their plasma-D racks. They were used primarily on escorts and fighters.

(FDJHK1.1) CONSTRUCTION

(FDJHK1.11) MODULE: The Sunfish module is a one payload space module. Historically, they were only fitted on special type-III frames sold to the Romulans in an alternate history. Theoretically they would also be available to the Klingons, and they could be used in any drone construction.

The cost of the module is 1.0 points in drone construction. Romulans can replace plasma-D's in their racks with type-III Sunfish for 1.5 points (Medium speed) or 2.0 points (Fast speed).

(FDJHK1.12) MOUNTING: Like stingray modules, the sunfish module must always be in the front payload space of heavy drones.

(FDJHK1.13) SUBMUNITION: This is a single plasma-D torpedo, which is treated as having been launched on the impulse of burst.

(FDJHK1.14) AVAILABILITY: From Y175, this module is Limited Availability to the Klingons. Romulans can replace no more than 25% of the plasma-D's on any ship with Sunfish drones.

(FDJHK1.2) OPERATIONS

(FDJHK1.21) TARGETTING: The Sunfish drone acts in all respects like an MW drone except for the nature of its single submunition.
(FDJHK1.211) When it reaches a pre-set release range from the target (2-8 hexes, recorded in advance), the plasma-D is released and the bus vehicle is destroyed during the "launch drones" step of the impulse. If it was contained in a two-space drone with another module, that other module is destroyed.
(FDJHK1.212) The normal Sunfish is type-III, and can be launched on a ballistic course, with the submunition finding its own target (FD5.252).

(FDJHK1.22) ELECTRONIC WARFARE:

(FDJHK1.23) TARGETS: Sunfish drones will accept any target that a plasma-D can accept.

(FDJHK1.24) POST-FIRING: As soon as the plasma-D submunition is released, the drone bus vehicle is automatically destroyed.

(FDJHK1.25) CARRIAGE: Sunfish drones are limited in launch. They can be launched only from drone racks, plasma racks, and from fighter rails designed for type-III drones or plasma-D's.
(FDJHK1.251) Sunfish drones launched from plasma racks always count as being in ``offensive mode'', even if targetted on approaching seeking weapons.
(FDJHK1.252) Sunfish drones cannot be placed in scatter packs, DefSats, Captor mines, or on fighter rails intended for type-I or type-VI drones.
