(IP5.0) ECM CLOUDS
ECM Clouds are areas of space that naturally create electronic noise (ECM).
(IP5.1) GENERAL INFORMATION
(IP5.11) ECM Clouds do not move.
(IP5.12) ECM Clouds cannot be damaged, destroyed, tractored, displaced, placed into stasis, or otherwise affected except as allowed in these rules.
(IP5.13) Web cannot be laid or cast within an ECM Cloud.
(IP5.14) ECM Clouds do not affect terrain, bases, or other stabilized points in space except as allowed in these rules.
(IP5.15) ECM Clouds may break lock-ons.
(IP5.16) ECM Clouds may be 10-900+ hexes in diameter.
(IP5.17) ECM Clouds may be combined with other terrain.
(IP5.18) Units within an ECM Cloud may use ECCM normally.
(IP5.2) EFFECTS OF ECM CLOUDS
(IP5.21) ECM clouds create 1 point of natural ECM for each hex of cloud between a target unit and the firing/targeting unit. Include the firing and target unit hexes if either is in the ECM cloud (both if both are in the cloud). Add this to any ECM allotted by the target unit.
(IP5.22) Use (G13.3) to determine if a unit has lock-on to a unit in an ECM cloud. Units can regain a lock-on using (G13.3). There is no fade period and no other adjustments to the range are made (no 5 added to range, the unit is not cloaked).
(IP5.23) The (IP5.21) affects of ECM clouds cannot be voided. The (IP5.22) effects can be voided in the same manner as voiding a cloaking device (G13.4).
(IP5.231) Units within an ECM cloud do not have to shut down fire control to gain the ECM or lock-on effects [ignore (G13.13)]. They can maintain active fire control and (possibly) a lock-on.
(IP5.232) Units within an ECM cloud can use ECCM without voiding the (IP5.21) or (IP5.22) effects [ignore (G13.441)].
(IP5.233) The (G13.37) chart is not used as an effect of an ECM cloud (the unit is not cloaked)..
(IP5.24) A unit within an ECM cloud that fires direct fire weapons loses the (IP5.22) effect on the firing impulse. They maintain the (IP5.21) effect.
(IP5.25) Self-guiding seeking weapons may try for lock-on under (G13.334) if the guiding unit loses its lock-on.
(IP5.26) The effects of a ECM cloud are applied to all units within the cloud and to any units firing at units within the cloud (including monsters, shuttles, fighters, and seeking weapons).
(IP5.29) ECM clouds effect the fire of all units (including monsters and other units that normally ignore ECM).
(IP5.3) ENTERING/EXITING A ECM Cloud
(IP5.31) Use both the (IP5.21) and (IP5.22) effects.
(IP5.32) When a targeting/firing unit can no longer maintain a lock-on using (G13.331) the range is doubled.
(IP5.33) When a targeting/firing unit is able to gain a lock-on using (G13.333) the effects of the ECM cloud are limited to the (IP5.21) effects.
(IP5.34) The (G13.302) effect is ignored.
(IP5.4) CLOAKED UNITS
(IP5.41) Cloaking devices work normally within a ECM Cloud. Both the (IP5.21) and the (IP5.22) effects are used. If lock-on is lost due to the cloaking device or (IP5.22) while the cloaking device is operating then an additional five is added to the range.
(IP5.42) If a cloaked unit voids it’s cloaking device in a ECM cloud the (IP5.22) effect of the ECM Cloud is voided.
(IP5.43) Cloaked units within an ECM Cloud cannot void the (IP5.21) effect of the ECM Cloud.
(IP5.44) Cloaked units receive little benefit from cloaking in an ECM Cloud except the above and (G13.37).
(IP5.5) LIMITATIONS
(IP5.51) All ECM cloud effects are based on the (IP5.21), (IP5.22) and (G13.0) effects except as listed in these rules.
(IP5.52) ESGs and Temporal Elevators do not function within an ECM Cloud.
(IP5.53) Units cannot transfer control of seeking weapons to another unit while the unit or seeking weapon is in an ECM Cloud. Control of self-guiding seeking weapons can be transferred to the weapon, but not to another unit.
(IP5.54) Units cannot lend or receive lent EW in an ECM Cloud.
