Early Years Timeline

Y50
This is the beginning of the Thirty Years War between the Klingons and the Kzinti. Played out over many decades, this conflict will see the rise of warp power by both sides, as well as development of drones and their variants (types-II, III, IV, and V).

Y62-70
Warp power is developed by most major races, with the significant exception of the Romulans. The Warp Drive is characterized by direct anti-matter power production, which gives it much greater efficiency and control than the earlier nuclear-powered Stardrive.

Y62
The ``Warp War'' begins between the Gorns and the Romulans. In Y66 the Gorns perfect their new tactical warp designs and within a year defeat the Romulan fleets while conducting lightning raids on numerous Romulan research facilities.

Y71
The Federation begins to form a United Star Fleet funded by donations and dues from many member states. However, due to logistical problems in fielding such a fleet, it will be many decades before the unified fleet will supplant the national fleets. The new fleet will be formed around the Terran fleet.

The Hydrans develop the Nova Cannon and decisively defeat the Lyrans.

Y73
The Hydrans make a pre-emptive assault on the Klingons to gain access to un-exploited methane worlds inside of Klingon territory. Within two years, they crush the Klingon border fleet and force a peace treaty giving them colonization and trading rights.

Y79
The Tholians arrive in our galaxy, settling in the tip of the same spiral arm that includes the Klingons. Over the next five years, they will carve out a solid chunk of Klingon territory including a number of minor colony planets. From this point on, the Klingons have continuing hostilities against the ``Extra-Galactic Menace''.

Y84
The Klingons begin the War of Retribution against the Hydrans. Over the next three years, the Klingons smash the Hydran fleets and reduce the kingdom to a client state, committing many atrocities against what they consider sub-Klingon lifeforms.

Y88
The Kzintis attack the Federation to capture territory, leading to a 3-year war (known as the Man-Kzin wars). The Kzinti take several planets, but eventually the allied fleets of the Federation push them back, restoring the original border. Logistical problems due of trying to support the various member fleets plagues the Federation forces during the early days of the war.

Y90
Third Gorn-Romulan War begins with Romulan attack. It will end inconclusively in 6 years.

Y92
The Great War erupts between the Klingons and the Tholians. Over the next ten years the Klingons assault in Tholians territory at a terrifying cost. Eventually they even assault the Tholian homeworld, but they are forced to withdraw and eventually abandon the war.

After restoring the Kzinti borderr, the United Fleet curtails production of all other designs except the Terran saucer design. Independent member fleets still produce their own designs.

Y101
First contact between the Klingons and the Federation. The Star Fleet cruiser Sentry  picks up a Klingon shuttle pilot requesting political asylum. Soon the D4 Devisor  shows up and demands his return. When the Sentry  refuses, the Devisor  fires upon her and the Sentry  flees.

Y103
The second Klingon-Kzinti War begins, which will be won be the Kzinti within 3 years. The Kzinti gain key planets.

Y109
The second Lyran-Kzinti war begins when a Kzinti CS destroys a Lyran exploration ship in their territory. After five years of fighting, it will end inconclusively.

Y111
The Federation-Klingon War of 111 begins in December Y110 with a Klingon attack on newly established colonies around Donatu. The war ends within five months, concluded with a simple compromise has the Federation withdraw from certain worlds, but strengthening their hold on others.

Star Fleet Command then announces a plan to disband all remaining national fleets and scrap all the ships. This sparks riots and strikes all over the Federation. A more moderate plan is adopted that allows the member states to maintain their ships in a decommissioned state. The Orions maintained a Defense Fleet which could be activated in defense of the homeworld.

Y113
With the impetus of the Klingon threat, the Federation finishes the disbanding of national fleets in favor of a unified Star Fleet. Two weeks after the last Orion squadron is deactivated, a group of 200 Orion officers and crew secretly enter the shipyard of the Orion reserve fleet. They activate seventeen ships and escape with only one escort destroyed. This `Mutineer Fleet' forms the core of the new Orion pirates. The mutineers have some grass roots support in the Federation because they are seen by many as striking a blow for freedom against the oppression of Star Fleet Command.

Y116
The Kzinti Civil War erupts. In a struggle for the Patriarchy, a powerful faction is defeated but escapes with a fleet into the WYN Cluster before it is crushed.

Y120-Y130
Around this period the major races begin introducing dilithium-moderated starships, which have a vast boost in warp power and mobility as well as shields. The jump in technology also allows for cheap warp-freighters, as opposed to the costly cargo-ships of the past. A cost-effective Orion design is soon sold and imitated across the galaxy.

Y120
The fourth Gorn-Romulan war begins. The Gorn are just introducing their new DD, CA, and CL designs. They gain some territory against the Romulans, but at high cost.

Y123
In a press for understanding, the Federation sends an ambassador to Klinzai, only to be withdrawn after six years. During this time, the arms race continues. Both sides complain of treaty violations masquerading as pirate activity -- the Klingons do not recognize the Orion Pirates as a separate political entity.

Y128
The particle transporter is adopted by Federation starships, after scientists finally deem it safe for use by sentient beings.
